I’m so quick to ignore how alive God truly is. Before I was placed in a community of a constant want for God and a hunger to know him deeper, I never recognized how alive he is and present in our lives. For domestic ministry my squad got the opportunity to serve at Sharptop Cove on the landscaping team this past week. If I’m being honest, at first I felt almost disappointed that we were on landscaping. I’m not very experienced when it comes to that, and manual labor doesn’t always have the most fun reputation. I wanted to do something that, in my head, had more of a direct impact. God was able to show me through that thought and mindset that he uses everything, no matter how big or small, to directly impact his kingdom. After day one of work, Harrison (who was in charge of my group) gave us encouragement that’s really stuck with me: He told us about how for part of his job he has to seed the grass and how it’s never been his favorite thing to do. However he does it because one day a kid could lay on the grass and give his/her life to God and how the thought of that is enough of an encouragement to continue to do it.
When I started to shift my perspective and see things from a bigger point of view I was able to realize how little the work has to do with me and how much it really has to do with the Lord. I was so wrong about how “little of an impact” the work we did had, because it wasn’t about me and whose lives I actually touched, or thought I touched, but it was about serving the Lord and living in obedience to him. In Luke 6:46-47, Luke is writing and calling out people for hearing the Lord’s voice and not listening to it. It’s just a reminder that God is screaming out for me and yearning for me to follow him in obedience. He is so active and constantly trying to get us just to pause our lives and look at him and follow him. I encourage everyone who’s reading this just to take a few minutes to pause and look up to the Lord. Where does he want you to be? Are you listening and following his instructions?
Me doing some landscaping and having a blast!!!!! LOVED IT
God bless you, Laura. Keep up the good work. God is doing a mighty work through you and in you.
Blessings 🙏
Laura, Thank you for the reminder to listen to God’s voice. It’s so easy for us to talk to God, but listening often requires a more intentional effort. You look so joyful!
